From aging out of support systems to supportive housing.
Daniel grew up in our community and benefited from school services that supported his developmental disabilities. However, when he turned 18 and lost access to many of these resources, he struggled to maintain employment and navigate the complex life skills needed for success. These challenges led to constant frustration, conflicts with others, alienation from his family, and eventually, homelessness.
With the assistance of his case manager in the NB Housing Partners’ First Footing program, Daniel connected with support services for adults with intellectual needs through the local mental health authority. This support enabled Daniel to transition to a more permanent housing placement with systems tailored to his needs. His new housing provides him with a sense of independence while also offering the resources necessary to gain and maintain employment, allowing him to continue growing and thriving alongside others with similar needs.
