STORIES OF TRANSFORMATION:
Anthony

When a strong, loving community leads to a healthy home.

Anthony had been experiencing chronic episodes of homelessness since early 2024. He also struggled with substance use, which not only created barriers to stable housing but also contributed to legal issues that made qualifying for permanent housing more difficult.

During his most recent enrollment with the First Footing program, Anthony found something that had been missing for a long time: community. A volunteer church group that visited the shelter weekly welcomed him consistently, with encouragement and connection. This support became a turning point. With a renewed sense of belonging, Anthony began his journey toward sobriety and maintained it throughout the remainder of his stay.

With continued support from the program and his church friends, Anthony moved to transitional housing and remained engaged with his church community, sustained his sobriety, and worked diligently toward long-term stability. Recently, Anthony achieved a major milestone: permanent housing. Today, Anthony remains stably housed, connected to his community, and committed to his health and sobriety. His journey reflects both his own resilience and the power of compassionate, community-based support.
